Google had introduced Material design at its last year’s Google I/O 2014 for Android Lollipop. At the time, Google had said the spec was a living document which will be updated as material design develops. There have been several updates from time to time and at Google I/O 2015, it has launched a completely revamped Google Design Website.
The website is not just a superficial makeover but is full of useful content – articles, guidelines and more. It also contains guidelines for app developers and designers which they can use while developing their own apps.
In Google’s own words, “To better capture all this great design work happening at Google and around the community, we’ve completely reconceived Google Design”.
Google has also released design guidelines for TV, Auto and Cardboard. There is an article about branding on material design and also one about designing from iOS to Android and back. The Icon Library has more than 800 material system icons which you can download. Google has also set up a new YouTube channel for Google Design which has video tutorials on various topics.
