Construction industry heavy equipment manufacturing company Caterpillar released an Android Smartphone by name Cat B15 last year. Many are not even aware that a heavy equipment manufacturing company also released a Smartphone. Is it a special phone? Yes, it’s. The device is a rugged design to survive hard knocks, dust, immersion in water and fall from 2 meters height.
The company released a video lately demonstrating ruggedness of the device. The device was dropped into a pool of water from a height of 35 feet. It was dropped on solid ground from the same height. A person inspected the phone right after the test and it worked just fine.
Another test was even more extreme. A Cat 227D Multi Terrain Loader weighs around 4 tons (9000 pounds) run over 600 Cat B15 Smartphones lay on the ground. The devices worked just fine without even cracking the display after the run over test.
Cat 227D Multi Terrain Loaded isn’t the heaviest machine from the company. Metal thread was replaced with rubber for the test to make sure the weight is distributed across all 600 mobiles. However no other smartphones would be able to pass such an extreme crushing test.
