The Sony Xperia Z2 Compact ‘Altair’ model number SO-04F may have passed through the FCC. The model number indicates that this device is for Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo.
Since Sony’s Xperia Z1 was model number SO-01F for NTT and the Z1 Compact (known as Xperia Z1 f) was SO-02F, one can assume that the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Compact may have the numbers SO-03F and SO-04F respectively, although nothing has been officially declared yet.
The Xperia Z2 SO-04F is one millimeter bigger in height and width than the Z1 Compact and measures 127.6 x 65.5 mm. Pics indicate that its back cover has a 1/2.3”, 20.7 MP camera sensor and G lens as in all Xperia Z devices.

Its LED flash placement indicates that it is a Z-series Compact phone because both Z1 and Z2 models have LED flashes below the lens. The schematics from FCC indicate that the Xperia Z2 SO-04F is a Compact because the placements of front camera and sensors next to the earpiece also match that of the Z1 Compact.
If we are to take a guess, apart from the screen which is must be bigger, the Xperia Z2 Compact will be similar to the Z2 model. The slightly bigger dimensions of Z2 Compact indicate a larger screen, might be a 0.2 inch screen bump with a 4.5 inch screen as compared to 4.3 inch screen in Z1 Compact.
There is no information yet regarding the official release date of the Xperia Z2 Compact.
