Sony Xperia T2 Ultra was announced way back in January and was expected to be officially released in the UK soon. However, Sony seems to have decided not to bring the big 6-inch smartphone to the UK.
Online UK retailer Clove Technology has mentioned the Xperia T2 Ultra as ‘Discontinued’ on its pre-order page. It has also posted a notice in red capital letters saying, “THE SONY XPERIA T2 ULTRA WILL NOT BE COMING TO THE UK & IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR SALE.” Considering that a major retailer in UK has announced that the device is not coming to the UK, the news is definite.
However, no comment has been forthcoming from Sony in the matter. But in its January press release introducing the large screen smartphone, the company had mentioned that the Xperia T2 Ultra was “designed specifically with customers from emerging markets in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific rim in mind.“ The device is available in other countries including Singapore, India, Malaysia and Russia and other emerging markets but UK is not on the list anymore.
Many are of the view that non-appearance of Xperia T2 Ultra in the UK will not be a big issue as there are other Sony Xperia options available. There is a feeling among consumers that Xperia T2 Ultra’s price is quite high. Some unfavorable reviews and dissatisfaction among consumers have also been reported.
If we have a look at the specs, the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra has a 6-inch 720 x 1280 TFT touchscreen with HD Triluminos display, 1.4GHz Quad-core Qualcomm processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage with MicroSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB, 13MP camera, a front-facing camera and 3000 mAh battery. The device runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS with KitKat upgrade to be available soon.
