After updating their Sony Xperia SP devices to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, some of the users have reported a problem with their handset displays. The backlight of the display has started flickering after the update, which can be distracting and irritating to the user while viewing the screen.

No such problem existed in the Android 4.1.2 version that came originally with the device. So the flickering display problem seems to be occurring due to a bug in the new Android 4.3 update. According to Xperia Blog, this problem has been reported by the users of firmware builds 12.1.A.0.266 and 12.1.A.1.201 only. The bug may be in the kernel because devices having a different ROM also face the same problem.

Sony Xperia SP is a mid-range smartphone available in Asia and Europe and the company had recently released the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the phone. Sony has not yet confirmed the existence of the bug. The flickering display can possibly be fixed by the company and an update released for it. However, it can’t be said when this will happen.
