The latest Google Camera update provides the ability to snap a image while recording video, executed by merely tapping the screen during video capture. Google Camera update 2.1.042 (1154629-30) is nothing too fancy. Essentially, the application is merely taking a screenshot of recorded sessions— not capturing an actual full resolution image from the hardware camera.

Users shouldnot be surprised to see more added features to Google Camera since Google made a handful of changes to most of their apps at last year’s I/O. This features are very specific to Android 4.4+ namely the GPE and Nexus line devices.

Again, the update is rolling out right now but for those that don’t feel like waiting, you can always sideload the updated app by downloading it here. The APK is authorized by Google and upgrades your existing application. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is not corrupted and safe for installation.
