The Apple iPad Air hosts a similar 9.7 inch display but the display technology seems to have been tweaked a bit where it is laminated with a cover glass, LCD, optically fused touch sensor thereby reducing the gaps between display hardware elements and thus helping in making a very slim profile. This new tablet has also gone lighter weighing just 0.96 pounds than the 1 pound weight for iPad Air.
Talking a more about the internal hardware for the device, it offers the new Apple A8X chipset with a 64-bit architecture involving 3 billion transistors in it that is a billion more as found in the iPhoe 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This Apple A8X chipset is believed to be manufactured using a 20nm process. Considering it from the performance point of view, the A8X chipset from Apple performs 40% faster as compared to the A7 chipset found in the iPad Air. There is a considerable jump that comes in the GPU performance with nearly 2.5 times faster speeds. This means all the graphic intensive tasks like gaming and much more are going to be handled in a butterly smooth way. The GPU is combined with Metal APIS delivering nearly 10 times better performance. An additional M8 motion co-processor along with the A8X chipset has been baked for handling motion control more effectively and smoothly. The Apple iPad Air 2 also has a Touch ID fingerprint sensor in support with the latest released Apple Pay.
The new Apple iPad Air 2 also gets a pair of new cameras as the primary camera to its back has been increased to 8MPfrom 5MP with some news sensors offering 1.12 micron pixels and a wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture. The entire image capturing experience of this new 8MP primary camera gets a boost with a powerful image signal processor that comes built-in into the Apple A8X chipset. The primary camera for the device is also able to capture full HD 1080p resolution videos. On the other hand, the front-facing FaceTime camera of the device measures 1.2 megapixel capable of recording 720p HD videos.
Apple has always been ahead in providing some very strong connectivity options along with its devices and the story remains the same for this iPad Air 2. The new Apple iPad Air 2 has twice as fast as the existing Wi-Fi 802.11 connection with MIMO support offering download speeds up to 866Mbps. The cellular modem for the tablet offers 20 4G LTE bands offering downlinks speeds up to 150Mbps. The tablet also has a new Apple SIM card that comes pre-installed that allows its users to easily chose between different carriers which gives users a flexibility to choose the best carrier with best plans. This can also be used to grab local data card during roaming and allows to have local tariffs.
Talking further regarding the battery life of the device, Apple claims that the Apple iPad Air 2 offers enough battery juice for 10 hours of long operation. This was the same for the previous iPad Air but however considering that this version (iPad Air 2) has gone out to be considerably slimmer, we can say that Apple has really worked well to manage it. The Apple iPad Air 2 is available in its three standard color options of white, space grey and gold. The price for the device remains almost the same as that for the first version at launch and the pre-orders of it have already begun. The release date for the device is tipped to be this week on October 24th.
