Apple has just reported the most profitable quarter so far from the company’s iPhone sales. This figure is far above the figure for Android smartphone sales. However, Android as a operating system has won over iPhone as the most operating system that smartphones are using nowadays. It is reported that more than 1 billion devices were shipped with the OS.

Compared to Android, Apple sold only 192.7 million last year while Android sold for 1042.7 million during the same period. The global smartphone usage is increased from 1 billion to 1.3 billion users in 2014 which means Android devices takes about 81% of the smartphones sold last year. Another player for the smartphone industry, Microsoft, takes about 3% of the market share while others totaled up to less than 1% of the market share. It seems like Android is not going to disappear anytime soon.

Apple sales have increased since the company is going to emerging market such as in China by targeting to higher-end customer. This results in higher-end Android device manufacturer such as Samsung is losing out in sales. However, there are other users who still feel that Apple device is out of their reach. The number of these users is definitely higher than the higher-end customers.

It seems like even though Android users may not have the purchasing power as the Apple users, however, the OS stickiness in the smartphone market is untouchable.
