The wearables smartwatch market is already getting crowded with so many smartwatches currently available. With every other company coming out with a smartwatch of its own, how can China’s Apple Xiaomi be left behind? The much awaited Apple Watch starts shipping from April 24th and now according to reports by Chinese website 36Krypton, Xiaomi will also be releasing its own smartwatch in the near future. The Xiaomi smartwatch will pose direct competition to the Apple Watch.
The new Xiaomi smartwatch will supposedly feature a brushed metal design similar to that of HTC One M9. It will sport a big round dial. The watch will offer pulse wave velocity identification by which users’ identity can be verified through their own pulse waves. Pulse wave velocity is the rate at which pressure waves move down the artery in our body. However, this technology needs very high amount of power and also causes light pollution. So that might be a problem Xiaomi has to overcome.
Apart from the above, no other details of the Xiaomi smartwatch are known as yet but it is expected to be an affordable watch and cheaper compared to the Apple Watch. There is also no information about its launch date.
In addition to the smartwatch, Xiaomi has also announced its second gen Mi Band 2 which will be light and sporty-looking and will incorporate a new NFC sensor apart from Bluetooth and accelerator.
