Redmi 1S is all set to continue the strong momentum for Xiaomi in the Indian market. Xiaomi Mi 3 was the first taste of what the Chinese mega-brand can do when it sets its mind on a most important Asian market.

Xiaomi India has already announced the availability of 40,000 units of Redmi 1S on Flipkart for its first flash sale on September 2. It is all about providing Xiaomi experience to anyone who can afford a basic smartphone. It’s priced at an aggressive Rs 5,999, though boasting the specs of phones priced around Rs 15,000-Rs 25,000 by the big-name brands.

The Redmi 1S is having 4.7-inch display with 720x1280p IPS-LCD resolution powered by 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB RAM. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with MIUI v5 skinned on top. The company has already promised an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI v6 towards the end of the year. In terms of build quality, we conclude smartphone to be much better than the Moto E, which is its nearest price competitor.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S also includes 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with flash and a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera. It also includes 8GB of built-in storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB), and 2000mAh battery.

Xiaomi has featured all the bangs and whistles of MIUI from the Mi 3. It has added features like USB on-the-go support for quickly transferring files from the pen drive and also an LED notification light placed cleverly right under its capacitive home button.

The Chinese smartphone maker has enjoyed much success in India with its Mi 3 flash sales, and with as many as 20,000 units going out of stock in under 3 seconds in several such sales.

The online flash sale flagship seems to have worked out very well for the debutants, which said it had sold over 95,000 units since the smartphone’s launch in India in late-July.
